Francis Griffith (police officer)
Sir Francis Griffith CSI OBE (9 November 1878 – 16 November 1942) was Inspector General, Bombay Police and later became Chief Constable, New Scotland Yard.
Francis Charles Griffith was educated at Blundell's School in Tiverton before joining the Indian Police Service.
Griffith was the older brother of Sir Ralph Griffith and the son of Francis Robert Griffith (1828 - 1901).
Griffith’s positions included:
*District office, Bombay Presidency
*Assistant to Inspector General of the Presidency
*Head of the Bombay CID
*Commissioner of Police, Town and Island of Bombay
*Inspector-General
Griffith was knighted in 1931 before retirement from the Bombay Police and was subsequently appointed as Chief Constable, New Scotland Yard. He was subsequently transferred to the War Office for special work but was forced to retire due to ill health.
